Why
do women need a condom?
Heterosexual
contact is the most common mode of HIV/STD transmission among women
worldwide.
Sexually transmitted infections in women can lead to pelvic inflammatory
disease, higher risk of ectopic pregnancy, infertility, or cancer
of the cervix. Condoms for men and women provide the only effective
barrier against the exchange of body fluids that carry the virus.
What are
the prevention advantages of the panty with a pouch?
For
primary prevention: Keep yourself safe. Always
use a barrier protection!
For secondary prevention: If you have
an STD, you can use a latex barrier to prevent transmission
to your partner.
Isn't there
already a women's condom?
Currently there
is only one choice available to women when selecting a condom for
their personal use. Clearly, more barrier protection options are
needed, especially methods that are safe, inexpensive, and under
the control of the user. As the spectrum of choices is broadened,
the numbers of women worldwide who are protected from STDs, including
HIV, will also increase.
What are
ZEBRAS?
ZEBRAS
are an all-latex panty with a pouch. The pouch, inserted into the
vagina, forms a complete barrier and covers the outside exposed
genital area thereby ensuring no exchange of body fluids. ZEBRAS
are a one-size-fits-all product.
Very simply,
put on a ZEBRAS before foreplay, lubricate the
pouch and insert into the vagina. It completely lines the vaginal
cavity. At completion of intercourse, the user removes the panty
and discards it.
How effective
will ZEBRAS be for women seeking prevention from
sexually transmitted diseases?
ZEBRAS
are unique because they cover the entire genital area of the user
that is vulnerable to exposure to sexually transmitted viruses.
Latex condoms have proven to be an excellent barrier for blocking
transmission of HIV and other STDs when used correctly and consistently
because the pores in the latex are too small to allow the passage
of the virus.
How much
will it cost?
ZEBRAS
will be priced comparably to the cost of a high-quality male latex
condom.
Where can
I get one?

What do people
think about our new latex condom on women?
The style is
sexy and attractive; is desirable in a range of colors; and both
men and women are especially pleased by the soft, silky feel of
the latex.
In focus groups
conducted in Nigeria, Senegal, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and South Africa
both men and women overwhelmingly viewed the all-latex condom as
safe, easy to use, and very appealing. Adolescents were an important
target group; teenagers liked ZEBRAS, could easily
understand how it works, and would use it.
